Who Are You?

Identity is the most important aspect in life. Its goal is to set us apart from one another. Since birth, we are constantly being told to find ourselves. We are brought up to make decisive choices that are meant to build on our biological identity for a higher purpose. But what if one identity is not enough? If our minds have the power to make these decisive choices, then what’s so abnormal about creating numerous identities to accomplish them? My portfolio is about these clashing identities. Sporadic identities, with lives of their own and dreams of their own, yet speak from one mind.

The Dark Knight Subculture is a narrative that describes my personal interest towards the fandom of idolizing an identity, specifically Batman. I explore the true nature of the source material, the version that can be individually interpreted and built upon.

This outlines my peek as I dive into masking numerous identities in Foot Treading. Here I’m able to test different roles. I can explore their identities based on their professions such as a Police Officer, a Judge and a patient. I’m able to see their own versions of how they interact within the same story told 3 different times.

As I begin getting comfortable with exploring other self-created worlds, I take inspiration from my canine companion, Taz, in Just Another Day. I imagine myself as if he might see the world if he were to take on another identity as another dog.

This has developed my ability to think further away from reality and take on a full character like John in Hypocritical Hazing. I implement John’s articulate voice and produce his version of anger upon his former superior. I play with the future of Olleanna’s story and create my own identity of an already established character.

Finally it’s time to say Hello, Doctor. This expresses the journey taken from experiencing the exploration of all the aspects of a genuine personality. Each character openly displays who they are, until they all transcend together to achieve the same goal as one individual.
